injured me

Case: Hit and Run Injured_2

Date: October 31

Time: between 6:45 - 7:00 P.M.

Location: in front of Fisherman’s Net Restaurant - Gorordo Avenue,

Lahug Cebu City

Suspect: a white 4-wheel vehicle

             plate number - unknown

Victim Account:

The side of the street immediately next to our office was clear of vehicles so i crossed the street. Paused in the middle of the street for like two or three minutes. I was waiting for the other side to clear up of incoming traffic when next thing i knew I heard a thud on my side and I fell on the ground. It wasn’t much of a fall as I merely twisted my right ankle similar to when you trip on something and landed wrongly on the ground. Fearful of being hit of incoming traffic, i immediately stood up and hopped to the other side of the street on my left foot. It was then that my new kid and recent board-passer from beloved cdo came up to me to make sure that i was okay. to prove that i was okay, i hopped on a jeepney to ayala as that was the reason i left the office early to pay for my globelines bill. hmmm, i wonder how the driver could have miscalculated and hit me when his/her side of the street was clear of any other vehicle saved for his/hers tsk, tsk, tsk…

I reached ayala OK but as soon as got past Timezone and reached Chris Sports, I couldn’t take the next steps. Every step I took with my right foot was a bit painful. Fearful that I might injure myself more if i kept on walking, i decided to call my sister to take me to the hospital to have my right foot checked. [bitaw, mahadlok ra ko mayawyawan sa ako mama if dili ko pa.check-up. at least by the time abot ko balay, i got everything covered na. doc, x-rays, and all]

We first went to cebu doc, but apparently it’s hospital procedure to get hit-and-run victims admit themselves first before the people in the e.r. check you. I texted my friend about it and told me that the admission policy had something to do with a medicolegal and to have official record in case victims want to sue. but patient can still be checked and just sign a waiver on refusal to get admitted. After I received my friend’s reply, i had my sister talk to the e.r. people again about the waiver and insist on just having my foot checked as i have no intention of taking legal procedure for i failed to get the vehicle’s plate number. one nice e.r. personnel explained to us that they could check my foot but still i would end up spending the night for the reason that a consultant had to sign my release papers. according to her, it’s for the hospital’s protection. meanwhile, pinkdimples texted me that she just called chong hua hospital and assured me that the docs there could check on my foot without having myself admitted for the night. hesitant to be admitted but fearful of my mother’s ‘yawyaw’ should she learn that i didn’t get my foot checked - my sister and i headed to chong hua’s out-patient clinic.

filled out some papers - initial doctor interview - taken usual vitals weight/temperature/blood pressure - referred to resident/in-house orthopedic doctor - patient interview - poked at my foot/demo of accident - doctor called consultant - wheel chair ride to the x-ray room - waited for x-ray results - some more patient interview - x-ray results negative, just a case of sprain and some pulled tendons - bandaged my foot with the instruction to leave bandage for two days and apply cold compress once bandage is removed to prevent swelling - gave me celebrex for the pain and gave instructions to see a doctor san juan on monday -  billed out - a couple of thousands poorer.

Lesson Learned:

Never go home early. Darn. This was the only time I left the office early and didn’t render overtime. Owner-of-the-room-i-envy should have make true of his "plan" to set up my new computer. As he said earlier that day, "set up ni na ko dayon para dili ka kabakasyon." Mean but i could have been spared the trip to the hospital.

risen from the dead

hmmm… i may have announced the travel blog thingy waayyyyyyyy too early. i haven’t done a thing with it.

too lazy i suppose?

well, not exactly.

i’ve been having intermittent mothers of headache the past few days. i even missed two days of work because of the nasty headaches. thus, i had the process of elimination going on to rid out possible causes. first off, went to see the doc. based on the symptoms i gave her, she told me it was because of rhinitis. she also informed me that i had to stop eating chocolates. those sweet treats are my treatment whenever i have a bad case of headache. apparently, it’s causing more pain than relieving it. since that visit i’ve been told to avoid chocolate, wine, and cheese. the doc prescribed citirizine, some anti-allergen/antihistamine medicine. took the meds only for two days because my officemates told me that i’m acting like i’m on some kind of uppers. bought another brand of med <still citirizine> and it sure cured the sneezing, the itchy nose, and other allergic reactions BUT it didn’t relieve the headache. so i stopped the med and went back to Norgesic, the tablet the doc gave for the pain. the tablet offered me temporary relief until its effect wore off and i had to pop another pill. after three days of incessant headaches, it was time to visit the optical shop and have my eyes checked. with an intense headache that transferred from my left temple to my right, i visited de los reyes optical. the attending doctor checked both eyes. she directed me to sit before a machine and examined my eyes. it was a weird machine as i would hear something pop immediately after she had an eye checked. then she  transferred me to another machine where i had to focus on an object while she adjusted something to create the illusion that the object’s distance changes. right after that, she took me to a room to read letters on the wall while she had me try different lenses. after determining the correct lenses, i chose a frame. this caused more headache as i had to shell out PhP3,500 for the glasses, which wasn’t part of my budget for the month. darn. i even got one of the cheapest frames. this had me wearing glasses the following day at work. wore it but the headache didn’t go away. on the other hand, my mother had resorted to going to quack doctors. she heard that there’s a lady in san fernando who can cure any sickness. off my mother went and returned with some oil. the oil is said to have healing powers. thus, my mother would rub oil on my temple <for the headaches/sinusitis> and on my belly <for my adenomyosis>. although i don’t believe much in it, i allowed my mother to have her way. to my mind, everything is worth a try. last october 24, i had my last headache. it was at that same time that my period which ran for almost 3 weeks ceased. so, probably my headaches were caused by much blood loss [i've a complicated beautiful uterus - let's just put it that way]. but who knows what really caused the headaches. i’m just happy that it’s been a week now that i’ve been headache and drug-free.

well, drug-free until october 31. explanation on the next post.
